Prepare for the upcoming Mass:
31st Sunday in Ordinary Time (November 4, 2018)
Theme: All Things Considered
Mass Readings:
~First Reading: Deuteronomy 6:2-6
~Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 18:2-3, 3-4, 47, 51
~Second Reading: Hebrews 7:23-28
~Gospel: Mark 12:28b-34
Key Words: obedience, love, fulfillment, total, vocation, commandment
Key Themes:
1. God is going to call us to give all we have… and then some.
2. The law of God is the law of love. The more we treat others with authentic,
selfless love, the more it can be said that we “are not far from the
Kingdom of God.”
3. God’s laws are not arbitrary laws which reduce the quality of our life. They
are the laws which help us live as we were created to. When we abandon
ourselves to God’s laws, they help us experience true and authentic life.
Meditation for the week:
~Are you more of a “know it all” or skeptic when it comes to understanding matters of the Catholic faith?
~How can you be more compassionate and loving toward God and your neighbor?
~Do you need to work toward greater understanding of Church teaching? How can you grow in this area?
Challenge for the week: Write down any questions you have about our faith-questions that might be in the back of your minds, questions you haven’t had time to explore yet, or questions about comments other people have made that you don’t fully understand. (Asking questions about our faith doesn’t mean we aren’t accepting of it, but rather asking questions is a way to know our beliefs and who we believe in better.) Take time this week to look up the answers to your questions. You can search catholicanswers.com, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the Bible, as well as ask a trusted and knowledgeable adult. Use primary sources, not just Google, in order to find more accurate answers.
